Hoot N’ Holler

Dad and I took a hunting trip out to the cabin a couple weeks back. The whole month of November was filled with hearty Alaskan winter weather and being out in the middle of it was a real treat.
Everything at the cabin was covered with a light dusting of snow… about four feet deep. I had to dig a giant trench to our cabin for dad and once we got things heated up giant, refrigerator-sized blocks of snow started tumbling off the roof.
There was a giant wall of snow running down the beach and the deer didn’t have anywhere else to go so a quick skiff trip would take you past 10-20 of them just milling around looking for food.
A pair of deer almost ran me over on the beach and another fawn just let me come right up and pet it. They’re getting taken down pretty hard this winter but now that the rain has come they might be able to move up off the beaches and get some other food.

I have an excellent partner and good friends. This hunt was the kind that gave you in the face winter, food, warm coco, cards, neighbor visits, an oppertunity to snowshoe and lots of laughter. Sweet for an old dude. Love to all and peace to the world. POPS!
Then there was the whiskey, almost swamping the boat at 3 degrees, freezing spray, and scarey snow coming off the roof events. Wild action

Yeah, that was a good trip. The only downside was how badly you beat me at cribbage. -Much love!

Dude, that was a bad ass trip. Too bad you two had to bail. That deer you got from the front porch was one hell of a way to start the day mikey. Walker has a bunch of pics from the rest of that trip on his myspace page that are pretty good. Lots of carnage. I think that this summer is going to be a good one to get out there and do some serious repairs. new water line, jack up the bunk, fix the roof on the main. Those are the 3 biggies that I am thinkin of. Maybe a new boat for out there, that lund scares me.
